About the card reader
With our card reader you can take payments from your customers at any time, anywhere. The card reader connects wirelessly to your iOS or Android device via Bluetooth and enables you to accept contactless, Chip & PIN and swiped payments as well as mobile wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
The card reader is a reliable and secure device provided by Handpoint, in partnership with Hoof. It is fully compliant according to the PCI DSS regulations and includes full P2PE encryption to protect card data. It can be used either as a portable device or in a fixed location.
You can turn the card reader on by pressing the Power button. When the card reader is turned on it will present a 'Welcome' message on-screen to greet your customer.
When you have entered the amount on the mobile app and clicked 'Pay', the card reader will display the amount and prompt the customer to tap, insert or swipe their card and enter their PIN (if required). When the payment is complete, the card reader will be ready for your next customer.
You can turn the card reader off by pressing the Power button and then pressing the OK button.
You can charge the card reader using the USB cable provided for up to 8 hours of battery life. You will be prompted by a 'Battery Low' message on-screen when the card reader needs charging. If you're using the card reader in fixed location, we recommend keeping it plugged in at all times.
It is important that you keep the card reader charged to avoid deactivation and protect the encryption keys that keep transactions secure. To avoid deactivation, you should charge the card reader at least every 3 months, even when not in use.
